Freedom Riders Cheque Presentation to HRSRH for Pediatric Burn-Scar
Garment Fund
Sudbury – On Friday, October 3, 2008, The Freedom Riders made a cheque presentation in the amount of $2000.00 to the Hôpital régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital (HRSRH) Hand and Upper Limb Rehabilitation Department for the Pediatric Burn-Scar Garment Fund.
Burn-scar pressure garments are worn directly over severely burned areas by all burn victims with second and third degree burns 24 hours per day for up to 2 years until scarring is mature. The garments must be worn continually, must be changed in order to alternate for cleaning purposes, and new garments need to be purchased every four months. Children may outgrow the garments and require new garments even more frequently which is costly, as families pay 25% of the cost. The burn-scar garment fund was developed in 1995 to help defray this cost for families, and exists only due to the generous donations of local groups and organizations.
The Freedom Riders is a non-profit organization, whose goal is to promote safe motorcycling and to help support local children's charities. Funds for the children's burn scar garment fund are raised through the group’s Annual Freedom Rally.
On behalf of the children and families who benefit from this fund, the HRSRH thanks the Freedom Riders once again for their generosity.
